There are some good choices to stay in Kasane and Bakwena Lodge is one of the better ones and presents you with a smaller more lodge style camp than other larger affairs such as Chobe Safari Lodge.
This is a true ECO lodge and they are proud of it… much effort has been made to make this so.
You will receive a warm welcome w when you arrive and we think this is a great alternative to the other options you have here in Kasane
Wildlife
The Chobe River, which flows along the Northeast border of the park, is a major watering spot, especially in the dry season (May through October) for large breeding herds of elephants, as well as families of giraffe, sable and cape buffalo. The flood plains are the only place in Botswana where the puku antelope can be seen. Birding is also excellent here. Large numbers of carmine bee eaters are spotted in season.
When in flood spoonbills, ibis, various species of stork, duck and other waterfowl flock to the area. This is likely Chobe’s most visited section, in large part because of its proximity to the Victoria Falls. The town of Kasane, situated just downstream, is the most important town of the region and serves as the northern entrance to the park.
Overview
Born out of the strong conviction that responsible tourism does not mean lack of luxury, Chobe Bakwena Lodge is the only lodge along the Chobe river built to be eco friendly from the ground up.
Acquired in 2000 as a barren soccer pitch, this piece of land has been transformed into a refuge for our guests and any wildlife that chooses to share our sanctuary. The Youngs achieved this by growing their dream and planting seeds of the indigenous riverine woodland that guests will find here today.
If the frenetic pace of work has left you with no time to enjoy the simple pleasures of life like a candle lit dinner under a star-studded sky with yours truly, then you will love our romantic dinner for two on a private terrace
In keeping with the ‘Treading lightly upon the earth’ motto they have designed a swimming pool befitting of their green status. Filtered by means of plants and a bed of gravel enjoy a chlorine free dip alongside the life-giving Chobe river on its journey to the Zambezi as it creates one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Victoria Falls.
Room Description
All ten of the River View Chalets are nestled in an indigenous riverine forest, overlooking the magnificent Chobe River. Wake up to the sound of a fish eagle and fall asleep to the comforting grunt of a hippo! Relax in the privacy of your own verandah and enjoy the beauty of Africa.
All five of the Treetop Chalets are elevated 3 meters on stilts above ground and wrapped in a Tree Canopy. Lose yourself in a secret world of incandescent light and leaves remembering why a tree house was a childhood dream.
Treat your loved ones to a spacious and secluded family room. Furnished in tasteful minimalism using natural fibres makes this space a refreshing change from the clutter of daily life. An opulent king bed welcomes you with twins in the second room. A shared bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower ensures no one is left wanting! Delicate hand sewn Madagascan lace floats through dappled morning light as the Chobe river rolls gently on. The deck is best enjoyed in silent reverie.
