Safari Lifestyles View

This is a delightful camp which sits in addition to a collection of others in this relatively new area, which has quickly become one of the best wildlife areas in the Okavango.

This East African styled camp is quite small and is of a very high quality, therefore it gets it’s 4 stars due to the reserve being a private concession with fantastic game.

Representing probably the least expensive lodge in the Okavango Delta, Camp Maru is a very welcome addition, and provides a perfect Delta stopover in any itinerary.

Wildlife

The concession is situated in a game-rich area of the Okavango Delta.

This combined with an incredibly diverse habitat, which includes mopane woodland, acacia trees, savannah, floodplains, permanent channels and tiny islands, makes for spectacular and special game viewing.

Sightings of big cats and the occasional sightings of rare species like wild dogs and rhino, add to the magical safari experience of the camps.

For avid birdwatchers, a number of rare species occur, including the endangered ground hornbill.

This region has come into prominence in the last few years and Camp Maru is on the same wildlife belt as some of its bigger rivals like Qorokwe and Gomoti Plains, both of whom share in impressive wildlife sightings.

Overview

The design of Camp Maru is a deliberate return to the authentic safari camps of days gone by and, with just 6 luxurious tents, it offers one of the most intimate and exclusive safari experiences available in the Delta.

The Camp is shaded by a grove of giant Leadwood trees on the edge of an expansive lagoon, filled with grunting hippos and fringed with waving papyrus.

This permanent water source attracts many animals and birds, both great and small. Year-round water and land activities produce exceptional game viewing, with elephant, buffalo and wild dog sightings almost a daily occurrence.

6 Luxury Tented Rooms.

Under canvas, open-air, comfortable seating area, shaded veranda, overlooking lagoon & wetland area. Known as the “Map Room”, together with an under canvas, open-air, communal style table. Breakfast & lunch served buffet style. Dinner served plated.
