Probably one of the richest game areas in Africa, Moremi Game Reserve offers the visitor a simply bewildering array of sightings. The ever present herds of buffalo, elephant, zebra, wildebeest and impala are complimented with fantastic sighting of red lechwe racing through the waterways. Along the permanent waterways of the delta, one might if are lucky see the very elusive sitatunga antelope and more common reed buck and water buck.
Predator species are high in number, especially with lion and hyena. Leopard sighting are extremely good as are cheetah and wild dog.
Due to the nature of the waterways, flooded plains and dryer areas, birdlife is some of the best available in the country. Birds range from Africa Pygmy-Goose flying low over the waters, Coppery-tailed Coucal, Bateleur Eagles and the rare Wattled Crane and Slaty Egret.

Peeking out from under a lush green woodland canopy, Camp Moremi, in the Xakanaxa area of Moremi Game Reserve, is a truly hidden gem. At the point where the life-giving waters of the Okavango Delta meet the vast plains of the Kalahari Desert, Mother Nature has created a sanctuary of Mopane forests, open grasslands, seasonal floodplains and riverine habitats, resulting in one of the most magnificent and welcoming animal environments in all of Africa.
Shaded from the African sun by a forest of ancient ebony trees, Camp Moremi is an elegant thatch and timber lodge consisting of an elevated main lounge, wildlife reference library, dining room and cocktail bar.
Camp Moremi is a classically styled timber and thatched safari lodge that sits under large trees and overlooks a flood plain and lagoon.
The main living area itself is of a two storey construction with a raised decking to the upstairs. The lounge area sits next to the cocktail bar and is extensively furnished with settees and sofas to relax on. the dining area is intimate and more akin to a restaurant than a safari lodge.
The lodge itself is on the ground and the exit leads to a sandy seated area with a fire pit. There is also a thatched boma where guests can enjoy brunch or afternoon tea and a secluded swimming pool and sundeck.
Rooms are reachable via a sandy path.
The Meru style tents are on raised teak platforms with a viewing deck to the outside with seating. The tents themselves are simply made from canvas and are in the more traditional bush style.
The furnishings are also simple and include a large comfortable bed with mosquito netting. The bathroom facilities are en-suite albeit adjacent to the tents.
The lodge enjoys great views over the flood plains and the lagoon beyond. The area is surrounded by woodland typical of the Xakanaxa region and the lodge benefits from this as it compliments the view.
The Moremi Game Reserve is the only officially protected area of the Okavango Delta, and as such holds tremendous scientific and conservation importance. Undoubtedly, Moremi ranks as one of the most beautiful reserves in Arica.
Contained within an area of approximately 3900 square kilometers, here land and Delta meet to create a picturesque preserve of floodplains, waterways, lagoons, pools, grasslands with riparian and riverine forests. This makes Moremi’s many loops and trails both delightful and at times, awe inspiring.
