Camp Xakanaxa is in the Xakanaxa region of Moremi Game Reserve. It sits in an area that is reasonably close to two other lodges, Camp Okuti and Camp Moremi, but not so close as to cause any overcrowding. The camp is located in a lovely peaceful area on the lagoon and in matured grounds.
Although being in a National Park does restrict the ability to conduct night drives or venture off road, the area is very rich in game and you will not be disappointed with the activities, a highlight of which would be the motorboat excursion around the lagoon and especially some of the very beautiful channels. The camp itself is lovely and comfortable in a classic African bush camp style.
The Moremi Reserve is rated as one of Africa’s finest game-viewing areas, offering sanctuary to abundant herds of elephant, sable, giraffe, tsessebe, lechwe, wildebeest, impala and waterbuck. Lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and hyena complete the picture.
As the custodians of one of Botswana’s very first safari camps, the owners of Xakanaxa Camp (pronounced Ka-ka-na-ka) have gone to extraordinary lengths to preserve its original African bush camp character, whilst always providing guests with every comfort.
Its prime location on the banks of the Khwai River on the Xakanaxa Lagoon in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve ensures that it is one of the only safari camps which can provide guests with an authentic, year round Okavango Delta land and water safari experience.
The stylish main buildings extend over the Khwai River and are set on raised platforms to maximize the views over the surrounding lagoons and islands. Constructed of local timber, reed and thatch they comprise of an elegant lounge containing a small but comprehensive library, dining room, expansive sundeck, plunge pool and sala with day bed as well as a fire-deck set under giant Jackalberry trees.
The reception lounge boasts a curio shop. The camp operates on generator power but at night all lighting is supplied by battery powered lamps, candles and paraffin lanterns, giving the camp an authentic African ambience.
The managers create a camp environment in which guests experience a seamless service in the warm, friendly style for which Africa is famous. The emphasis is on discreet personal service, to ensure maximum guest enjoyment. A great number of the camp staff have been looking after guests at Xakanaxa for more than ten years.
