Khwai Bush Camp used to be called Tsaro, in the Khwai Community Concession. The old camp lay dormant for years and has now been taken over by African Bush Camps and has been given a new lease of life, with their own touch of style.
Built on the banks of the Khwai River in this extremely productive wildlife area, the accommodation is unusually made of brick, very different to the normal canvas built lodges in Botswana.
If you don’t mind the public area, this is a fantastic area to view animals in a lovely camp.
The magnificent area boasts of unparalleled wilderness with highlights of big herds of buffalo in the dry season and close encounters of unique wildlife species such as aardvark. Large herds of elephants can be viewed at the rivers and waterholes, and thousands of zebra concentrate in the winter before heading south.
Other wildlife seen includes lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, giraffe, eland, sable, hippo, hyena, aardvark and various other nocturnal species. The endless vistas of the Linyanti marsh makes an incredible playing field for the avid bird watcher combined with breath taking views of a scenery carved by defiant forces of nature. Water birds, including pelican, are common.
Khwai Bush Camp, located a permanent site on Tsaro Concession is built on the banks of the Khwai River and nestled amongst a forest of sycamore and leadwood trees.
Khwai Bush Camp consists of 4 standard and 2 family chalets. Guests enjoy spacious and comfortable thatched accommodation and private en-suite bathrooms with views over the permanent water source and beyond into the Moremi Game Reserve.
The central main area, due to its brick and thatched built nature, feels quite different to most lodges in Botswana and has a definite feel of a designer bush home.
Quite modern wooden furniture and sofas adorn the simple main lounge area with separate dining room. Its different, and feels good. The effect of a family home is accentuated by its positioning amongst a group of large trees, which also dominate the outside area from the longe and which consists of an outside dining area and fire-pit, all an decking.
In keeping with the rest of the camp, the rooms are all built from brick and with a thatch roof… Again the modern interior actually works very well and has a cooling effect from the days heat.
Room are large and either have a separate bathroom area or a suite. The larger rooms also have a lounge area with a brick built open fireplace, a welcome relief from the cold in the winter season.
