Safari Lifestyles View

Muchenje Lodge sits just outside the confines of the Chobe National Park to the south western side of the river area. The huge benefit of this is that the lodge is not in Kasane and therefore does not get involved in the daily hustle and bustle at that end to get into the Chobe River. Rather, the camp uses the southern gate, which is much quieter.

The lodge itself is very comfortable and feels much more like a proper bush lodge than its Kasane counterparts in that it is much smaller and is located in the Chobe Forest Reseve which is attached to the park albeit from the southern side. You have wonderful sweeping views over the Chobe River and are in an area where one can conduct day and night drives as well as bush walks, river cruises and off course excursions into the National Park itself.

Wildlife

Away from the busier areas to the east., we don’t think that you will ever tire of the elephants, there are some other wonderful wildlife viewing opportunities on offer, not least of which are the vast herds of Cape Buffalo… then there is the good lion population, elusive leopards and the beautiful African wild dogs.

Antelope species, too, are well represented, including the common, but still beautiful, impala, the majestic Sable, and the endemic Chobe bushbuck. Birding is excellent, and as Botswana has in excess of 350 species you r check-list is sure to fill-up. Should be travelling between November and March, there are also a number of migratory species to add to the list and experience.

The Chobe River is home to a good number of hippo, pods of which enliven huge stretches of the River, along with some truly massive and ancient crocodiles. Your game viewing might also be enriched by a family of Chacma baboon – with the youngsters capering about, irritating the adults, and generally having fun….

Even after returning the Lodge you will have to chance for more fantastic game sightings and birds… we are not fenced-in and wildlife is free wander in and around camp, and although we are justly proud of the neighbouring National Park, we invite you to sit back and relax in camp, and watch the world go by….

Overview

Muchenje Safari Lodge enjoys a unique position to the west of Botswana’s famed Chobe National Park The camp sits on an escarpment with wonderful views of the Chobe River, and Namibia’s Caprivi Strip and seasonal flood plains.

Unusual for a Botswana Lodge, Muchenje is owner run and managed, which allows for a more personalised service.

Muchenje Safari Lodge’s position on an escarpment of the Chobe River means that it commands exceptional views. Guests can therefore enjoy game viewing from the convenience of their private veranda, the pool deck or one of the viewing decks.

The lodge has just 11 guest rooms giving an exclusive feel to the property. The main Lodge area is extensive, and has been built to allow for excellent vistas, comfort and charm. you can relax in the many quiet areas; from the viewing platforms and decks, the dining area and bar. A little retail therapy is also at hand, at the curio shop.

Close by is the swimming pool, complete with deck and more excellent views. There are not too many places in and around Chobe that have a view over the floodplains etc… luckily Muchenje is one of these lodges.
