Safari Lifestyles View
Like something out of Lawrence of Arabia, San Camp sits on the edge of the huge Makgadikgadi salt pans as a mirage. This is the newer version of the camp and it is much improved from the old. The tents having been made and imported from India stand out as a white temple as you approach from a distance. The accommodation could be classed as simple but it is extremely elegant and designed to flow into its environment. We know of no other camps with white tents but they blend in perfectly with the white salt pans.
The main lounge is very open planned with open walls and billowing curtains. The area is filled with museum pieces such as its sister camp, Jacks Camp, but San camp feels much less claustrophobic and very spacious. What is extraordinary about these large structures s that they pulled down and packed away every year during the rainy season when access becomes difficult.

Wildlife
This particular area is not traditionally known for its big game such as its neighbouring areas in Botswana, however, there is interaction here with wildlife. The largest sightings occur when the Zebra migration appear close to the beginning of the year. At this stage you will find thousands of Zebras crossing the pans.
Regular sightings of lion and elephant are also occurring around camp and this is a good area for the nocturnal habits of Brown Hyena.

Overview
San Camp is situated on the edge of the vast and mysterious Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, the remnant of an extinct super lake that once covered most of Botswana. Turn 360° and nothing crosses the eye but the bowl of the sky.
Classic white tents stand majestically, perched on the shore of an enormous sparkling salt pan, each sheltered by a cluster of stately desert palms. Spectacular vistas, soothing and serene – Pared down safari elegance with minimal ecological impact, it is the nothingness that attracts…
San Camp also runs almost entirely on solar energy, thus dramatically reducing the use of fossil fuels. Expert guiding, incredibly friendly habituated meerkats, unique desert species, old-world safari styling and superb cuisine all come together to create an experience that is completely different to any other. The perfect place to relax, unwind and retreat.
Each tent is constructed from white materiel on a metal frame and is designed to be dismantled and removed completely during the wet season, only to be re-erected in the dry season. The only part of the camp that is left during deconstruction is the wooden decking they sit upon which remains in place covered.
Adjoining the dining area in the last of the three sections is the relaxation area where one can enjoy tea and coffee. The seating here is pretty much at ground level and is Arabic in style with its north African rugs and soft furnishings spread out all along the rim of this circular tented area. The whole of this large tented area’s walls are curtained which are pulled and tied back to allow pretty for a 360 degree panorama.
Room Description
Each accommodation is quite spread out from each other and is approachable vi tracks that skirt the edge of the huge Salt pan.
Again, made from similar materiel to the rest of the camp, the style of each tent is a large Meru tented room, they are designed this way in order for the dismantling of camp every season. A small deck with seating at the front has seating for the views and a comfortable lounger.
The inside of the tent is approached via this deck through a zipped entrance. Inside is dominated by either a double or twin four poster beds with on Arabic style rugs. Here there is also some ornate furniture to give the tent a homely fee, including extra seating and a writing desk.
To the back is a simple but very ornate en-suite bathroom with shower, which had basins and flushing toilet.
