Certainly one of the finest lodges in Botswana.. Xigera is a sublime mix of ultimate quality coupled with a superb wildlife experience.
Newly built in 2020, this lodge sits as high as any in Africa in terms of quality, and also sits in a prime position, in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Sitting under the shade of a canopy off trees, Xigera looks out over the floodplains of the Delta, offering 12 suites of an enormous size and opulence.
We describe Xigera as a “mixed” camp, as it offers both land and water activities, however the lodge is as biased as it was in the old days towards water activities, mainly due to the habitat it sits within.
There is a huge family room for those with children over 12 to relax in. A further kilometre away there is also the Baobab Treehouse, an innovative design to resemble the tree of its name, it stands 10 meters high and allows for a marvelous and unique sleep-out.
All in all, Xigera is another addition to Botswana’s relentless drive to provide the very best lodges in a world heritage wildlife destination.
Elephants are arguably the stars of the show. Northern Botswana is home to the world’s largest population of Loxodonta Africana, and at last count more than 130 000 wild elephant still roamed free here.
On mokoro and motorboat excursions look out for the area’s smaller inhabitants, like the tiny mottled frogs that cling to delicate papyrus reeds. Stealthy crocodiles and large pods of hippo shy away from attention in the deeper channels and lagoons, while healthy populations of endangered rhinoceros find safe refuge on the secluded islands of the Okavango.
Xigera Safari Lodge offers just 12 beautiful suites, each resting effortlessly in this wild landscape. Amid this remarkable setting, Xigera’s design aesthetic is wholeheartedly dedicated to celebrating African art, design and creativity. Each piece has been handcrafted and inspired by the incredible natural surroundings; every experience can be tailor made to your wishes… an entirely new imagining of the African bush.
The Okavango Delta provides the palette of inspiration for the interiors of Xigera Safari Lodge, with even the smallest details showing a deep connection to the natural world beyond the lodge. Meticulously created and crafted, in every sense the décor pays homage to both the human and natural heritage of this remarkable corner of Africa.
Conceptualised by Toni Tollman, Philip Fourie and Anton de Kock – in collaboration with award-winning South African gallery Southern Guild – the Xigera Design Collection is breathtaking in both its scope and bold vision.
Revel in a perfect medley of materials, textures and colours. Within each suite, furniture and decorative arts have been painstakingly handcrafted by a collection of Africa’s most talented artists. In each suite, design exist cohesively in a jewel-like layering of materials and texture including timber, bronze and hand-carved wood.
Individually, each suite is remarkable. As a whole, Xigera is a living gallery of African art and design, an entirely unique celebration of the continent’s creativity, honouring indigenous traditions while seeking out bold new interpretations.
The Family Suite offers a perfect blend of spaces for spending time together and relaxing in privacy.
The Xigera Family Suite showcases two bedrooms and can accommodate four guests. Each bedroom includes dedicated en-suite bathroom facilities, a dressing area and outdoor shower, allowing parents and children to enjoy their own private space on safari.
These two spacious rooms share a beautiful lounge area that opens onto a wide deck overlooking the Okavango Delta. Settle in on the daybed for a lazy afternoon of reading, relaxing and reflecting on all that you have experienced as a family.
