Kubu Lodge is set on the banks of the Chobe River in Kasane. We would say that this is a quieter option to some of the bigger lodges in Kasane that offer the same access to Chobe National Park or Vic Falls across the borders.

Set in very nice garden grounds, which can tempt the odd wildlife to graze on its manicured lawn, the simply furnished thatched wooden chalets are peacefully located seeming “far from the madding crowd” whilst being quite centrally located, and with a great restaurant.

We would definitely recommend Kubu Lodge for any stopover in Kasane... its is one of the better options

Wildlife & Activities

Like the Greater Linyanti, the Chobe River Front is teeming with buffalo and elephant. Away from the river is mile upon mile of dry land only dotted with waterholes, therefore the river is an absolute haven for the game that needs it. As ever, if there is a large presence of game, there are large numbers of predators, mostly lion.

On the flats around the river area, aside from the normal game, the more interesting antelope you may see are good levels of red lechwe, the similar looking puku and the rare Chobe bushbuck. To the southern end of the chobe rover area can be found good numbers of roan and sable antelope, and if you are lucky, more inland you will find eland.

Birdlife, as expected on the river area can be spectacular and you may see birds that may be more difficult to see elsewhere such as African skimmers, spoonbills and giant kingfishers. Together with a surprising array of raptors, the Chobe river front area is a stupendous location for birders.

The Camp

Camp Overview

Kubu Lodge is a small, privately owned and run lodge on the banks of Botswana’s Chobe River. The elevated thatched chalets, shaded beneath giant ebony and wild fig trees, overlook a spreading lawn to the river's edge. An idyllic setting.

Lodge Layout

Kubu Lodge conveys all the comforts of home and the facilities provided go a long way to achieving this goal.

The first class restaurant delivers an exceptional menu that is a delightful fusion of traditional African dishes and refined European cuisine. Set high up with elevated views, the panorama of the Chobe River is a superb accompaniment to every dish. Enjoy dinner under the stars on the restaurant deck or the romance of the private boma for special occasions.

The relaxed and convivial atmosphere of the bar is an ideal location to swap African stories and enjoy that icy cocktail or award winning Cape wine.

The secluded location of the pool offers privacy and a spectacular view of the river that can be enjoyed from the comfort of a chaise lounge in the shade of a giant ebony tree.

Summer House

If you are looking for some quiet solitude then the summer reading house is the place. An extensive library of African books provides additional inspiration for the post card writing.

Camp Environment

Kubu Lodge is located near the little village of Kazungula, close to the center of Kasane, in far northern Botswana. Overlooking the Chobe River, the lodge is 2km upstream from the confluence with the Zambezi River where four countries meet – Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

The property encompasses 30 hectares of pristine riverine forest and is mostly undeveloped. This provides a sanctuary for the usually shy Chobe Bushbuck as well as a host of other small animals and prolific birdlife. The entry gate to the Chobe National Park is a mere 12km away.
