Overview

The Ilala Lodge Hotel in Victoria Falls is ideally situated on the Zimbabwean side of the mighty Zambezi River, where it is the closest hotel to the magnificent Victoria Falls. The Victoria Falls, recently voted one of the World’s Seven Natural Wonders, are within easy walking distance for guests, as is the Victoria Falls town centre. Ilala Lodge is the perfect spot from which to embark on a voyage of discovery in one of Africa’s favourite tourist destinations. Here, historical sites, culinary experimentation and a host of activities in pristine natural surroundings are within your reach.

Ilala Lodge offers distinguished yet affordable accommodation in warm elegant surroundings. The decor evokes an era of early adventure and the quest for discovery in Africa. All the communal guest areas exude a colonial atmosphere with antiques, curios and unusual prints which continue the theme of African adventure and sophisticated indulgence from times gone by.

Outdoors, it’s all about the falls, and the spray from this mass of falling water is visible from most places at Ilala Lodge Hotel. The Hotel is ideally situated being the closest to the mighty Victoria Falls as well as the town centre. There is no need to enlist the services of a guide to visit this worthwhile sight, as the Falls are an easy 20 minute walk from the property, so you can admire this natural wonder at your own pace. Victoria Falls town is even closer and you will find many entertaining pastimes to enjoy in this lively tourist town.

The National Park borders the front of the property and wild animals often graze on the hotel lawns, with the spray of the falls in the background. Warthogs are common visitors and their comical appearance and behaviours are sure to delight and entertain you during your stay.

The rooms at Ilala Lodge Hotel are located on two floors designed to create a feeling of privacy and to minimise disturbance from other guests. The rooms on the upper tier open out onto a balcony, while the lower rooms have double French doors leading onto peaceful manicured gardens.

Although the view of the spray from the falls is much clearer from the upper levels, the ground floor apartments offer charming proximity to the warthogs, and sometimes hippos, which visit the hotel grounds to graze. The adjacent Victoria Falls National Park provides an abundant supply of both four-legged and feathered visitors to admire and enjoy.

All the rooms are spacious and decorated with teak furnishings made from railway sleepers which enhance the African ambience and laid-back lodge atmosphere of this boutique hotel. Muted tones and soft furnishings in creams and soft browns mirror this uncomplicated, restful atmosphere which is complimented by comfortable beds and tranquil views.

SIGHTSEEING & CULTURAL
You can either take a 2 hour guided tour of the Victoria Falls to learn the history from an experienced local guide, or you can opt to walk to the Victoria Falls on your own accord.

Visit a croc farm and get to see how we rear these reptiles from eggs to full adult crocodiles. The eggs hatch in about December or January so if you are here in those months ask to see them. Feeding times are a highlight and we recommend taking a guided tour with one of our experienced guides.

SCENIC FLIGHTS
View the spectacular Falls from the air with either a short or extended flight over the Victoria Falls and Batoka Gorges.

RIVER ACTIVITIES
Experience an adrenalin filled day rafting on the lower Zambezi River. Half & Full day trip options with lunch and refreshments. A calmer option would be the upper Zambezi canoe trips.
